Popnus Puzzle is a match three game that has something for everybody. Unlike standard match three games, the object you select switches places with any other object it touches. This sets it apart from other match three games where you only switch two objects side by side.

Game Play

There are three different types of game you can play: Puzzle, Survival, and Classic. The puzzles are quite simple yet hypnotic. The Survival area is a crazy, frantic game where some of the objects are bombs which must be removed before they explode. The classics are slow, relaxing, games where you have a certain amount of time to rearrange an entire board so that, when activated, all items on the board clear.

With these three game types, the amount of game play you could get out of this is quite high. At the price of $10, this is a bargain.

Creativity and Innovation
The selected object switching places with every object it touches is a fantastic innovation. Should you select an object on the edge of the board and put it in the middle, you will pass over a string of other objects, rearranging all of them. It made me a bit frustrated that the puzzles weren’t more challenging. It’s a clever twist; to use it in such easy puzzles seems a waste.

Also, the puzzles aren’t always arranged in the classic rectangle. There are unique arrangements and, at times, you have to plan ahead so that objects will fall into line with one another after the previous line of objects disappears. In other match three games, this is almost always just a happy accident. In the puzzle section of this game, it must be the result of planning. It’s a nice touch.

Graphics and Sound

The music is a lazy bass. It’s a very calming sound. Paired with the fuzzy, pastel graphics, the whole game has an almost tranquilizing effect. Popnus Puzzle appears to be geared towards children, especially when you win a game and voices that could be The Chipmunks congratulate you. The soft music and graphics make the play such a placid experience, I can see adults enjoying it as well. It’s exactly the sort of game that serves to occupy your hands while you mull over a problem or idea.
