The newest puzzle game to hit the market is an exciting twist on Bejeweled, and 4 Elements promises to suck in average gamers with innovative ideas and creative updates to a classic favorite.

Terminal Studio uses fun graphics and good sound to go with the interesting game play, which will keep a player challenged and interested for the entire 64 levels in the full version.

Game play begins with the story, which although the game itself is fun, the voice at the beginning of the game, coupled with the sleepy music, makes you just want to skip it all. Players can go straight to game play and a helpful fairy shows the player what to do. The perfect life in a beautiful fairytale is destroyed when the four elements, earth, fire, air and water go crazy.

The wise mage tells the player to remove the evil spell by finding magic cards in each element and restoring their power. The player must first complete a hide-and-find type of game, where pieces of a picture must be found, and then each picture must be used to perform actions. Once the player completes this, the game moves on to the puzzle aspect.

However, this game is not just another tired version of Bejeweled. It contains twists and turns just like the old game, such as blocks that cannot be moved, along with other obstacles to overcome, but the object of the game is not to completely clear the board of all matching icons. The object is to move the energy through the puzzle to the altar, which is done by clearing matching icons and creating a path for the energy.

As the levels progress, so does the difficulty. After several puzzle levels are completed, the player receives a magic card and must then compare it to the original, bringing out yet another creative aspect of this game. When the player selects all the differences, that card is brought to life. Each element contains several cards and each card has several levels that must be completed to activate the cards.

The graphics are fairly standard, but due to the different playing aspects of the game, it goes back and forth between puzzle game graphics and the beautiful scenery found in fairytale stories, which is pleasing and fits the game. The background music is good and not too overwhelming, although I did turn it down in the options menu. The sound effects during the puzzle levels are good and not annoying as in some games.

All in all, this is a classic game that has been reinvented in an interesting and challenging way to keep gamers’ attention. It would be great for children and adults. I was disappointed when my sixty minutes were up, and knew I’d have to get the full version. Due to the good graphics and music and the very creative types of puzzles and play available in this game, it rates a solid 5/5.
