Lying somewhere between Bust-A-Move and Bejeweled, Glyph 2 challenges its players to match three or more like symbols, adnauseam. Each stage is a field of replicas of five different elemental symbols, with the occasional hurdle or special rune. Players are asked to click on these symbols in order to clear them. Three adjacent symbols is the minimum in order to clear. The maximum is limited only by your ability to set up your symbols. The more you clear, the more points you earn. High scores are the goal here.

GAME PLAY
Sandlot Games give us two ways to play Glyph 2. Action mode puts you in stages where symbols are added to the screen at regular intervals. You have the option to “push” the action, should the difficulty level be too easy for you. The ONLY goal here is to score as many points as you can, without losing a life. Lives are lost when your symbols go off the top of your screen. Story mode gives you a hackneyed plot about elements, and collecting energy. The play is similar, but there are more types of obstacles, and more ways to clear the symbols. The symbols on each game field are replaced in a different manner from Action mode as well. Both modes have their own appeal, though that appeal is quite low. The challenge of this game is somehow less than that of Bejeweled and other similar games. There is no penalty (beyond potentially lower scores) for clicking randomly. If you love Bust-A-Move, you might enjoy the strategy involved in trying to get large strings of similar symbols next to each other, but without the challenge of aiming a gun to fire symbols of your own, this maneuver becomes very mundane.

GRAPHICS
Speaking of mundane, don’t expect your eyes to receive much stimulation. There are few things to look at beyond the symbols on your board. Try not to let your eyes bug out after more than fifteen minutes of play.

SOUND
Advisory: You will want to play this game with the sound off. The music is boring, and the only sound effect you will hear gets annoying after about ten times. You will hear this sound about thirty times a minute. There are a few other sound effects that occur less often, and they are a nice reprieve, but they too would likely become annoying if hear enough.

CREATIVITY AND INNOVATION
Little? None? What more can I saw about how unoriginal and uninteresting this game is. It’s been done, and it’s been done better.

OVERALL
If you are new to puzzlers, you might enjoy this game. If you have played any games before, chances are, you’ll find this game to be more annoying than enjoyable. At a price of $19.99, you will certainly want to try before you buy. Likely, you’ll try, and never buy, as similar games can be played for free on any number of gaming websites. This game gets a 2/5.
