Delicious Emily’s Holiday Season Game Review by Rachelle de Bretagne
Game rating = 4/5 Balls
It’s the seasonal time, and Emily has to do all she can to cater for the discerning customers of the lodge in the snowbound village of Snuggford. From cooking and serving food, clearing tables and keeping the restaurant in tip top condition, Emily has her work cut out for her. It’s time to decorate and to make the hotel as cheerful and welcoming as possible. Follow Emily through seasonal events which include elements of fun such as snowballing, skating and winter activities.
The game play is fast and furious. Starting with a relatively easy pace, the player soon realizes that the action needed to keep up with the challenges given isn’t as simple as at first appears. The game caters for different levels of player, which means that those with limited knowledge can get their fair share of fun. Movement of the main character is quick and depends upon the player concentrating on priorities.
Instructions are given for the less experienced player. One of the nice elements is that players don’t have to suffer the flow of instructions if they are already talented at this genre of game. Going from one location to another, the game is varied enough to retain the player’s interest and will appeal to different age groups because of this variety.
The graphics are basic, but in saying that, they need to be. If flash images were introduced it would certainly detract from the game quality. Concentration on game-play is vital to keep up with the challenges set, meaning that if graphics were enhanced, this may distract the player from the whole purpose of the game.
The sounds are discreet and don’t interfere with game-play. Seasonal offering of music enhances the game, and sounds can be used as clues that something needs to be done, which is handy for those players who need a little bit of extra help.
Creativity and innovation.
The game is clever, and incorporates many different aspects of restaurant and hotel management. Dealing with customers is represented as complex, which is accurate. The many facets of the game make it an interesting and varied challenge. Unlike other games in the genre, there is always something new to do, such as making sure the pests are kept at bay, or dusting away the cobwebs in between other tasks. This makes the game more interesting and takes away the element of boredom often encountered with games of this kind. Add to this the different locations, and interaction with other characters, and the game offers creativity and seasonal fun for all.
