Crazy Boat is a sub par arcade style boat racing game which seems to make little to no effort to distinguish itself from the hundreds of similar games released before it. It is not so much that Crazy Boat has any particularly noticeable flaws, it is simply that the game has absolutely nothing to recommend it.

Beginning with the tutorial, one immediately realises that this is an extremely simplistic game, with no depth whatsoever. The arrow keys control acceleration, deceleration and turning, and shift puts the boat in “turbo” mode. That is the complete extent of the controls. The text which explains the controls to the user also reveals the game’s less than stellar production values, as there was clearly no effort to make an accurate English translation. This is perhaps not a flaw, though, as it probably serves as the most entertaining part of the game, with laughable quotes such as “You do it! You ready to win race now!”

Gameplay is similarly uninspired, with little challenge or entertainment value. The AI is poorly designed, as they simply go around the track with little effort to impede the player or strategize. The game is also exceptionally easy, one need only hold down turbo, which never runs out, and brake when going around corners, and the game is won. The only attempt made to spruce up gameplay is the addition of exploding barrels and jumps, both of which admittedly make things slightly more interesting.

The three dimensional graphics are those of a ten year old game at best. The water, which deserves special attention in a game such as this, is particularly disappointing. It appears flat and lifeless, with splash effects that are childish and awkward. The boats themselves have been designed in the most generic manner possible, with no variance between them save for color. Backdrops, which appear blurry and vague, only serve to complete the game’s drab image.

A boring repetitive soundtrack continues the game’s mediocre aesthetic. The awful techno background music becomes annoying quickly and the sound effects, which consist of about three individual clips, worsen rather than enhance the experience.

Of course, simplicity, uninspiring graphics and abysmal sound effects does not necessarily mean a game is poor. Some of the greatest games have had extremely simple modes of play, yet been intensely addictive. This might have been true for Crazy Boat, save for the fact that the game has nothing unique or inventive about it. One can find many games that do the exact same thing as Crazy Boat, but do it better. True, the game is fairly cheap at $14.90, but this can not make up for its lack of entertainment value.

Kino One is the perfect blend of classic gaming and remastered material. It will provide hours of addicting, humorous game play that will take you back to the good old days. With picturesque 3-D graphics and an exhilarating soundtrack to accompany the immersing action, Kino One is an all round good game; it more than earns the rating of 4/5.

Indie games are known for their “out of the box” stories, and Kino One is no exception. A hilarious cast of characters and imaginative dialogue make Kino One an enjoyable experience right from the start. Whether it’s the guiding Doc or a tough alien invader, you will be grinning the whole way.

Kino One’s masterful 3-D graphics compliment the story and game play, while giving an innovative, simple, player-friendly interface to the classic concept of the space shooter. The plethora of bonuses and power-ups as well as the all mighty “bomb” make Kino One challenging and fun. The endless hordes of alien invaders offer you hundreds and hundreds of bonuses. And did I mention the laser.

If you have a friend then just hit select and you’re ready to shoot down some aliens with duel spaceships. Two player mode is simple and competitive. Compare scores and team up to bring down the challenging boss.

Kino One doesn’t come alone. With it are a host of other remastered classics with funny twists like Pong, Tacman, and Space Rocks. The more you play, the more you unlock. If you want to take a break from blasting aliens then you can take on multicolored blobs or a paddle, either way it’s great fun.

A perfect soundtrack adds ambiance to the action packed game. When you face a horde of enemy spaceships a rocking song empowers you forward to victory. When you face an enemy general a slow, grim song reminds you of the broken time and space that your fighting in… In short: total immersion.

The most obvious reason to buy Kino One is the game play which will satisfy even the most bored gamer. Next would be the amazingly good deal you get with the game; $4.95 for Kino One. Another reason to buy the game is the replay-ability. If you finish the main game you can improve on your scores, play the mini-games, or play with a friend.

A reason not to buy Kino One would be the lack of depth involved in the story. Another reason not to buy the game is that it is not a serious game, but rather more of an arcade game. The last reason not to buy Kino One would be that the game is very basic and does not satisfy the gamers need for something higher end or high tech.

Overall I give Kino One a 4/5 for great graphics, design, and creativity. It is a game that will take up hours of your time, but it will be worth every second.

Story

You play the part of an orange creature whose shape resembles a cartoon ghost. He needs to collect items to score points and move on the next round and then to the next town.

Game Play

The player is shown three towns: Little Town, Big Town and Mega Town. You begin with Little Town where there are different houses with tasks to complete. You can’t unlock the next game until you have completed each task in the correct order. The first puzzle consists of a chart where you have to drag and drop three matching colored sweets in a column in order to gain points and stars. Upon completion you then have to collect points by catching the colored sweets in a magic bag. No two puzzles are alike.

Graphics

The graphics are simplistic but they work. The colors are bold and bright animations and enhance the game play.

Sound

The sound is low level with buzzers and beeps for right and wrong moves. After a while this can become annoying particularly in timed rounds when you need full concentration.. There are also realistic sound effects such as owls hooting and the flapping of wings.

Creativity and Innovation

The game takes a simplistic idea of matching three colors together in a creative way. The game is highly addictive particularly the timed rounds. Each round is different and harder than the last one. I would consider buying it because it is excellent value for money and will provide you with lots of fun. It also makes you develop a wide range of skills from matching, beating the clock and using logic. The player has the chance to repeat games to unlock the next level. At times it is frustrating being stuck in the same game for example the game Red Line involved making sure none of your sweets crossed the line when the red line dropped every few seconds. It was frustrating but rewarding once achieving the goal.

That urge is what drives you towards the island where that treasure is, and also makes up the premise of this game. Big question: what’s with all the fish, and where’s those precious jewels?

Well, in Reel Quest, you basically have to catch a certain number of fish to progress through the levels, which will help you advance in your quest for the treasure.

Gameplay: 4/5.
Your main task is to toss your line into the water, and catch as many fish as you can before your time runs out. Thankfully, all you have to do is left-click once to lower your line as deep as it will go, or if it snags a fish first, and wait for the line to return to you.

Catching individual fish gives you less points, while stringing several fish on the line as it comes back to you gives more. Of course, the occasional piece of floating refuse or several makes things tricky. If your line touches any of them, you’ll lose any fish on the line!

In later levels, you’ll come across other hazards. Jellyfish and electric eels, like leftover garbage, can cause you to lose fish as well, but you can’t catch them at all. But the worst threats are the sharks, which will pull you off-screen, and the angler fish, which just LOVE eating other fish in sight!

Fortunately, some power-up bubbles can even up the odds. A can of fish food will attract nearby fish to it, while a stick of dynamite will turn all catchable fish into point bonuses. A coin bubble will provide you with cash you can spend at the Shop, accessible after the first 5 levels, to get some items that will help you with your fishing.

The graphics in Reel Quest are quite well done, although the cutscenes could use a little more polish. It’s pretty easy to pick out the fish from the junk in most cases, which helps a lot when you’re gathering points from the start.

Some sounds are a bit humorous, like when you get electrified by the lightning or the eels, The music’s nice, but otherwise, it’s not really anything special. However, the sound and music do go together well for this game.

This game was designed with a simple idea, but with a gradual learning curve that doesn’t punish you too much for making mistakes. It has a fair amount of challenge, and each stage challenges you differently, so you can get used to things quickly.

Game play
The player is enrolled in the “Peggle Institute,” where he or she must complete 60 levels of increasing difficulty. Each group of five levels is themed according to the “Peggle Master” who governs them, and each master offers a different special ability which becomes available when a green peg has been hit.

For a fairly simple game concept, Peggle Nights is surprisingly addictive. The player controls a device at the top of the screen, which does a 180 degree swivel and shoots pinballs. The player must aim carefully, because after shooting the ball, they have no further control over it unless certain special abilities have been activated. The object of each level varies depending on which mode you are playing, but is usually to eliminate all the orange pegs while accumulating as many points as possible. Once a player has unlocked each level by defeating it in “Adventure” mode, it’s eligible for play in the other modes. “Quick Play” allows the player to try any unlocked level using any unlocked Peggle Master. The “Duel” mode offers an opportunity to compete against the computer on a specific level. The “Challenge” mode can only be accessed after completing Stage 3 of Adventure mode. In “Challenge” mode the player must meet specific requirements, such as clearing extra orange pegs or reaching a certain point threshold, in order to complete a level.

Graphics
The graphics in Peggle Nights are very similar to those in the original game. The colors are more muted, as befits the night-theme. I found the background graphics on each level to be more dynamic in this sequel than in original Peggle. Some of the backgrounds incorporate movement, and they are more story-oriented. Where, in the original game, I found the level back drops mostly unnoticeable, in Peggle Nights I found myself interested in studying them for hidden details.

Sound
The sound in Peggle Nights is pleasant and fitting for the game play. You probably won’t find yourself exclaiming in amazement over the background music, but you will find yourself humming it under your breath unconsciously after a few hours of game play!

Creativity and Innovation
Peggle Nights contrasts with the original Peggle in that it is set at night, and all the Peggle Masters don their alter egos in their dreams. The concept is cute, particularly if you are familiar with the original game, but it’s not a particularly innovative departure from its predecessor. For instance, Bjorn, the unicorn head professor of the institute, becomes a caped and masked superhero in the Peggle Night dream world; however, his Super Guide power remains the same. When viewed next to the original Peggle, Peggle Nights is really just more of the same, with slightly different packaging and new levels to master. However, when you’ve got a winning formula, why change it?

Peggle Nights retains all the addictive fun of its predecessor and will provide hours and hours of fun for either the Peggle enthusiast or the Peggle newbie. Peggle Nights is easy enough for a child to play, but challenging enough, due to the varying goals set in different modes, to keep an adult entertained for hours. I give Peggle Nights a 5/5 rating, and will probably purchase two copies, one for each computer, so my husband and I don’t have to fight over playing it!

When I first loaded this game, the background music which sounded very much like a composition from Hollywood blasted through my speakers. A player can choose between a multi-player or an arcade game, and any of the three Martian spacecrafts. After I had chosen my space vehicle, I click on “Return to Game” to start playing.

GAME CONTROL (3/5)
The game control was quite easy but challenging. To play, I had to use both the keyboard and the mouse. The keyboard was used to control the movements of the spacecraft. The mouse was use for shooting. There was a dark blue circle that was supposed to help me aim at my target. Unfortunately, the color was not really suitable for the black background. As a result, the blue circle seemed to have disappeared at times. Mouse and keyboard co-ordination was also a bit tricky for me.

GAME PLAY (3/5)
Playing the game was fun but challenging. For each round that lasted two minutes, I had to look carefully for robots that might be ‘hidden’ in the asteroids, and aim the blue circle as accurate as possible in order to destroy any spotted enemies. Using both the mouse, and keyboard together is also a challenge for anyone who is not used to it. I resorted to just using the mouse, and it did help me to score. Occasionally, a large robot would appear making it more exciting. I found having to see the game loading screen every time before entering the next level annoying. There is no level of difficulty for you to choose from in this game. Instead, you have to start from the lowest level, and work all you up to the highest by scoring enough points. There was a small “radar screen” to help me to know the position of my spacecraft.

GRAPHICS (3/5)
The graphics for this game gave a realistic representation in 3D-like environment with its realistic-looking movements of asteroids. When I move my mouse, my space craft appeared to be moving in 3D. The large robots that appeared at times also looked three-dimensional. However, a more visible color instead of dark blue should be used for the blue circle that I had to use to aim for my target.

SOUND (4/5)
The sound was very good. The background music created some sense of urgency during game play. The sound effects which included the shooting of the laser beams, and the voice that reminded me that I did have much time left for a specific level was a also great.
One innovation I found in this game is the boxing-ring-like border which gave the feeling of fighting against robots in a boxing ring. Overall, I give this game a three out of five.

The game uses both the mouse and keyboard to play. The space button is for momentum, the longer held down, the faster the dolphin goes. A range target acts as the point the dolphin swims to. Either the mouse, the w, a, s, d keys, or the arrow keys can direct the dolphin. The right mouse button shoots the attached laser. There is no jump button and how high the dolphin jumps is based on how deep the dive and how fast the dolphin is moving.

There are there options of game play, story mode, trick mode and speed mode. I recommend playing speed mode first to get a feel for how the dolphin moves. In story mode, Laser Dolphin swims through the levels in increasing difficulty. As the levels advance, so does the story. In trick mode, the level is timed as you manipulate the dolphin to jump through hoops, glide at high speed to build up points. A bronze medal is required for advancement to the next. In speed mode, the dolphin is maneuvered through all the hoops as fast as possible. A bronze medal is required here to.

The excellent mechanics of the game cause the dolphin to move as a real dolphin would. Not only does Laser Dolphin swim forward, he also swims sideways, downward, upward, and even upside down. The motion is very fluid and smooth. It feels as if the dolphin is actually in the water.

The graphics of the game is moderately detailed. The golden dolphins sparkle against the darker blue water making them easy to find. The hoop are simplistic circles of balls. The mines and laser stay immobile but it’s the enemies that stand out the most.

The sound is upbeat with realistic dolphin sounds when hit. The lasers and missile fires each have their own sound which intensifies the battle. The levels basic sound does not change and becomes a bit repetitive after awhile. But it is expected, as a shooting game.
This game is innovative and addicting. I loved playing it. The realistic movements make Laser Dolphin. It is definitely a game worth buying. I rate it a 5 out of 5.

At first Elf Bowling Hawaiian Vacation is a bit difficult to get the hang of. But after you master the controls it becomes quite fun. Although it has ‘bowling’ in the title, this game is very different from traditional bowling. The pins have been replaced by Santa’s hard working Elf’s and the traditional alley is replaced by three exotic locations. The game progresses as you complete the various game modes, eventually allowing you to unlock almost 20 different bowling balls and a variety of avatars to bowl with. The addicting gameplay is complimented with a Story Mode, a Single Player Mode, and a Multiplayer Mode, creating an enjoyable Elf Bowling experience.

Graphics 4/5
Although you won’t be seeing them on the Xbox 360 anytime soon, the graphics in Elf Bowling Hawaiian Vacation are decent to say the least. The animations of the elfs and the effects seen on the alleyway, with the lane and the ball, are truly astounding for this title. Subtle effects that aren’t needed but add to the experience include things like water splashing on the camera and exciting camera angles when you get strikes and spares. When you look at the graphics for similar titles, Elf Bowling Hawaiian Vacation features the best.

The sound effects in the game are superb, the dialog from the elfs is, on the other hand, repetitive. After just a short time of gameplay one can easily become annoyed. If there was just a bit more variation in what was said the annoyance wouldn’t be so bad. The music for the title is also repetitive. If you play your own music while you enjoy an hour of elf bowling the entertainment value of the game remains high.

The level of creativity in the game is noticeable to say the least. It’s easy to become lost in the world of Elf Bowling as you play with road blocks in the lane and enormous bowling balls. The variety of dirty tricks and bonuses creates for a very unique bowling experience that can’t be found anywhere else.

The addictive nature of games like Elf Bowling Hawaiian Vacation can result in countless hours spent enjoying a simple game of bowling. Game Play

The concept is simple but ridiculously addictive. Hordes upon hordes of alien lifeforms descend towards the player’s spaceship. The player can move only left to right at the bottom of the screen, firing ceaselessly in order to escape defeat and rack up points in the process. Here, there are five different space systems to choose from, all infected with generous supplies of insect-like aliens just waiting to be destroyed. Players can select from four different ships, all with their own unique speed attributes and firing velocities. Each one also comes equipped with a specialty weapon or defense mechanism when enough points have been earned. The difficulty levels are very well adjusted: I breezed through the ‘Easy’ mode, struggled a bit to finish on ‘Normal’, and still haven’t made it through a full system on ‘Hard.’

Graphics

One might think that little could be done to graphically enhance such a straightforward format. But Insectoid goes above and beyond its predecessors with very detailed enemies, some of which may even frighten younger gamers (I have to admit, even I can get creeped out when gooey centipedes continue hurdling toward my tiny ship). The level backdrops are likewise well-designed and greatly enhance the gameplay. Here, the typical starry backdrop is filled with menacing asteroids, sulfurous clouds, and swirling vortexes of aliens who slowly spiral toward you.

Sound

Killing swarms of aliens to the sound of repetitive beeps and chimes can get monotonous quickly, but here there was rarely a dull audible moment. Not only were the sounds of firing lasers and descending aliens unique and well-placed but the pulsing techno and electronica that made up the soundtrack had me nodding my head almost the entire time as well.

Creativity and Innovation

What sets Insectoid apart is really the presentation quality. This game layout has been around since the late 70′s so other than a few new weapons or crafty enemy attacks, there’s little in terms of gameplay features to make this any different than its predecessors. But the graphical enhancements and level design really make it a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Insectoid is by far the most well-designed and entertaining ‘alien-blaster’ style game I’ve played thus far.
