RoomBoom Suburbia is another in a long line of Sim City wannabes. Granted, RoomBoom mixes in a bit of a Tetris element, but even that has been done before. Mindemia tried to create a game to capture the attention of strategy simulation fans, but ultimately, came up with a sub par mash up.
GAMEPLAY
There are two parts to the game. The first is where you create rooms from pieces in a confusing, frustrating, conveyor belt full of wooden shapes. Thankfully, there is an option to merely simulate this part, and players can focus on the second part of the game. In this portion, players select rooms, and arrange them on a map, attempting to connect all the necessary pieces for a full house. This is done by matching red doors to red doors, and blue doors to blue. The rooms that are available at any given time change, so players need to be on the look-out, and are better served to attempt building more than one house at a time. Successful houses lead to money. A large enough sum leads to control of the land. After a predetermined number of turns, scores are tallied, and a winner is declared. After a small learning period, control of the pieces becomes pretty easy. Unfortunately, after this learning period, the game play gets pretty boring.
