Unmechanical? That’s the nice way to describe our father. It’s also the name of a puzzle adventure PC and iOS video game coming from Indie developers Talawa Games and Teotl Studios. PC Games will be able to play Unmechanical on August 8th. iOS gamers will be able to play the game a few weeks later. Unmechanical’s game trailer’s visuals remind us a bit of the indie game Machinariun from Amanita Design. (more…)

Coming this summer to a PC and the XBox 360 near you. Avengers? Battleship? Men in Black 3? Maybe if you find a movie bootlegger or find a torrent site still operating. No. This summer more Orcs will die (even though we personally think Orcs bring a lot to table) in Orcs Must Die 2, the next episode of the action strategy franchise from Robot Entertainment. In Orcs Must Die 2, you must cause more Orcs and other so called monsters to permanently stop breathing, this time with a female companion called “The Sorceress”. (more…)
Rovio, Rovio where at thou? Pigs and Birds in space. NASA involvement. Rovio released Angry Birds Space for multiple platforms – iOS, Android, PC and Mac. Somehow Rovio transported Angry Birds and innocent pigs in space where the birds take their anger issues out on the sweet little pigs. For those of you who haven’t been to space the laws of gravity and physics work differently than on our planet. For example when you fling an Angry bird on earth at first the bird rises towards the target but the Angry Bird’s rate of elevation slows to the point it starts to drop. In Angry Birds Space the Angry Birds will move in a straight line unless something changes it collides with an object like a moon or satellite to change its direction. (more…)
The tanks are coming! The tanks are coming. Gamers can now pre-order Gratuitous Tank Battles for $22.00 from Positech Games. Cliff Harris, Positech Games’ sole makes elaborate strategy and simulation video games like Gratuitous Space Battles, Democracy 2 and Kudos 2. Gratuitous Tank Battles takes place in a alternative version of future earth where the great war (WW1) still rages on. The game contains elements of strategy, tower defense and real time management game mechanics.
Here’s Positech Games Description of Gratuitous Tank Battles:
Gratuitous Tank Battles, the alternate history ‘World-War-1-with mechs’ strategy game has entered Beta, and is available for pre-orders NOW. Gratuitous Tank battles is a new PC strategy game that blends the best bits of tower-defense, real-time-strategy and simulation / management games. A spiritual (if not actual) successor to Gratuitous Space Battles, GTB takes the tower defence genre by the scruff of the neck and stamps on it with heavily armored mechs-feet.
GTB differs from conventional Tower Defense in many ways. Firstly, you can play either side (attack/defense), secondly all the units are customised both simulation-wise and visually. Thirdly, the game has a built in map-editor and map-sharing feature to encourage widespread custom-map-making. Fourthly, GTB lets you save out your own attacking decisions, then play against them as defender. And lastly, the game also features optional ‘adaptive’ AI rather than just pre-scripted waves of enemies (although these are available as well).
Set during an alternate future where world war one never ended, and continues to be fought with mechs and laser-tanks, GTB blends hardcore strategy gaming with a light-hearted sarcastic sense of humour. The war has raged for 200 years, but our superior officers are convinced it will all be over this Christmas, however many poor beggars have to be crushed into the dirt to make that happen.
Rovio, with the help of NASA scientist Don Pettit, announced a March 22 launch date for the next chapter in the Angry Birds saga called “Angry Birds Space”. Somehow the pigs and birds have escalated their battle royal to earth’s orbit. The Angry Birds Space game player will have to take the physics of space into consideration when trying to demolish the helpless cute friendly wouldn’t stab you in the back pigs. It looks like Rovio will release Angry Birds Space for iOS, Android, PC and the Mac all on March 22nd.
We have to ask haven’t the birds had enough “so called” revenge?
CBE Software released the downloadable playable demo for their narrative Sci Fi PC game called J.U.L.I.A which takes place in 2430 AD stars Rachel Manners, an astrobiologist who awakens from a cryogenic sleep after a long journey to find herself alone orbiting an unknown planet, with J.U.L.I.A, the ships artificial intelligence and her only companion. Partnered with J.U.L.I.A they must solve all the mysteries and puzzles. I would describe J.U.L.I.A as a giant point and click puzzle adventure game. The graphics and concept look really sharp so far.
Cliff Harris, owner and sole programmer for the indie studio known as Positech Games released this video where Cliff explains the debugging tools he uses during the development of his upcoming strategy PC game called Gratuitous Bank Battles (GTB). Cliff (Positech Games) makes elaborate strategy and simulation video games and this video gives the audience insight into the development process. The video may not appeal to everyone but certainly to folks who want to learn more about the game development process.
