Game Rating = 4/5

Kino One is the perfect blend of classic gaming and remastered material. It will provide hours of addicting, humorous game play that will take you back to the good old days. With picturesque 3-D graphics and an exhilarating soundtrack to accompany the immersing action, Kino One is an all round good game; it more than earns the rating of 4/5.

<a href="http://www.plimus.com/jsp/download_trial.jsp?contractId=2552628&referrer=charliegrace"onClick="javascript: pageTracker._trackPageview('/kinoonedl1'); ">Download Free Game Trial

Indie games are known for their “out of the box” stories, and Kino One is no exception. A hilarious cast of characters and imaginative dialogue make Kino One an enjoyable experience right from the start. Whether it’s the guiding Doc or a tough alien invader, you will be grinning the whole way.

Kino One’s masterful 3-D graphics compliment the story and game play, while giving an innovative, simple, player-friendly interface to the classic concept of the space shooter. The plethora of bonuses and power-ups as well as the all mighty “bomb” make Kino One challenging and fun. The endless hordes of alien invaders offer you hundreds and hundreds of bonuses. And did I mention the laser.

If you have a friend then just hit select and you’re ready to shoot down some aliens with duel spaceships. Two player mode is simple and competitive. Compare scores and team up to bring down the challenging boss.

Kino One doesn’t come alone. With it are a host of other remastered classics with funny twists like Pong, Tacman, and Space Rocks. The more you play, the more you unlock. If you want to take a break from blasting aliens then you can take on multicolored blobs or a paddle, either way it’s great fun.

A perfect soundtrack adds ambiance to the action packed game. When you face a horde of enemy spaceships a rocking song empowers you forward to victory. When you face an enemy general a slow, grim song reminds you of the broken time and space that your fighting in… In short: total immersion.

<a href="http://www.plimus.com/jsp/download_trial.jsp?contractId=2552628&referrer=charliegrace"onClick="javascript: pageTracker._trackPageview('/kinoonedl2'); ">Download Free Game Trial

The most obvious reason to buy Kino One is the game play which will satisfy even the most bored gamer. Next would be the amazingly good deal you get with the game; $4.95 for Kino One. Another reason to buy the game is the replay-ability. If you finish the main game you can improve on your scores, play the mini-games, or play with a friend.

A reason not to buy Kino One would be the lack of depth involved in the story. Another reason not to buy the game is that it is not a serious game, but rather more of an arcade game. The last reason not to buy Kino One would be that the game is very basic and does not satisfy the gamers need for something higher end or high tech.

Overall I give Kino One a 4/5 for great graphics, design, and creativity. It is a game that will take up hours of your time, but it will be worth every second.

Game Rating = 4/5 Balls

Once upon a time, all action games were like Jets n Guns Gold. Piloting a heavily armed yet highly manoeuvrable starfighter around unlikely structures in outer space and blasting seven shades of starlight out of all manner of alien beasties. Sideways scrolling shooters are back with a vengance.

Download Free Game Trial
Buy The Game Now $29.95

Storyline and Gameplay

There is a story behind the non-stop action in this game, but it boils down to saving the universe from the usual alien threat, and is relayed by neat cartoons. Jets and Guns Gold is intense, fast and refreshingly difficult from the outset. No tutorial levels here, your little spaceship needs to hit the ground running! Controlling your craft with the cursor keys and firing using the spacebar (just keep your finger pressed down), you need to fly around shooting as much as you can while avoiding: enemy ships, enemy fire and the ground. Power-ups and extra cash float around (you can upgrade your ship between levels), naturally.

Exploding alien ships frequently eject their pilots, and if you can destroy enough of the stick figure aliens at once, you also receive a cash bonus from ‘viewers at home’ – a ‘body count’ ticks over along with the player’s score. If you die, you get to restart from the last checkpoint, you can’t ‘lose’ the game definitively. It’s a difficult game, but not unfairly so.
Graphics and Sound

The game’s sound is amazing. An apparently original soundtrack plays in the background, sounding a lot like 80s hair metal with a few electronic tunes thrown in the background. The opening music sounds like Bon Jovi covering the Knight Rider theme tune. All the various flashes and bangs are effective, too, even down to the little groans of the dying aliens.

Graphically, Jets and Guns Gold is also strong, with well-drawn alien spaceships and explosion effects, and slick scrolling and animation. The game is also efficient with its graphics demands, running like lightning even on the most modest modern laptop.

Download Free Game Trial
Buy The Game Now $29.95

Creativity and Innovation
Given that sideways scrolling shooting games have now been with us for more than quarter of a century, Jets and Guns Gold manages to feel fresh. Perhaps it’s the nostalgia element. Or perhaps it’s the quirky sense of humour that has been applied to the game’s graphics – which results in adverts for weapons littering the levels, or signs saying ‘No nukes between 8:00 and 5:00′. Either way, Jets and Guns Gold feels like a new gaming experience and not just a rehash of past glories.

$29.95 is a significant price to pay for a game, but the sheer addictive difficulty of the game could lead to hundreds of hours of gameplay.

Buy Jets and Guns Gold if you:
* Like a challenge
* Want something uncomplicated and fun
* Enjoy brilliant music in games

Don’t buy it if you:
* Prefer a stronger plot
* Are squeamish about game violence
* Like more sophisticated gameplay.

Game Review Summary

Reasons to buy Insectoid:
- If you love classic arcade games
- If you like games that are a little repetitious but ridiculously addictive
- If you want great sound and graphics with timeless gameplay

Reasons not to buy Insectoid:
- If you don’t like repetitious gameplay
- If you want a completely new and original concept
- If blasting loads of gooey aliens just isn’t your thing

Complete Game Review

Along the lines of arcade classics such as Space Invaders and Galaxian, Insectoid isn’t anything we haven’t seen before. Rather, it takes the famous formula and expands upon it, tweaking and smoothing out all the little details to make time-tested fun more graphically and audibly pleasing than we’ve seen it to date.

Download Free Game Trial
Buy The Game Now $19.95

Game Play

The concept is simple but ridiculously addictive. Hordes upon hordes of alien lifeforms descend towards the player’s spaceship. The player can move only left to right at the bottom of the screen, firing ceaselessly in order to escape defeat and rack up points in the process. Here, there are five different space systems to choose from, all infected with generous supplies of insect-like aliens just waiting to be destroyed. Players can select from four different ships, all with their own unique speed attributes and firing velocities. Each one also comes equipped with a specialty weapon or defense mechanism when enough points have been earned. The difficulty levels are very well adjusted: I breezed through the ‘Easy’ mode, struggled a bit to finish on ‘Normal’, and still haven’t made it through a full system on ‘Hard.’

Graphics

One might think that little could be done to graphically enhance such a straightforward format. But Insectoid goes above and beyond its predecessors with very detailed enemies, some of which may even frighten younger gamers (I have to admit, even I can get creeped out when gooey centipedes continue hurdling toward my tiny ship). The level backdrops are likewise well-designed and greatly enhance the gameplay. Here, the typical starry backdrop is filled with menacing asteroids, sulfurous clouds, and swirling vortexes of aliens who slowly spiral toward you.

Download Free Game Trial
Buy The Game Now $19.95

Sound

Killing swarms of aliens to the sound of repetitive beeps and chimes can get monotonous quickly, but here there was rarely a dull audible moment. Not only were the sounds of firing lasers and descending aliens unique and well-placed but the pulsing techno and electronica that made up the soundtrack had me nodding my head almost the entire time as well.

Creativity and Innovation

What sets Insectoid apart is really the presentation quality. This game layout has been around since the late 70′s so other than a few new weapons or crafty enemy attacks, there’s little in terms of gameplay features to make this any different than its predecessors. But the graphical enhancements and level design really make it a thoroughly enjoyable experience. Insectoid is by far the most well-designed and entertaining ‘alien-blaster’ style game I’ve played thus far.

Indeed there’s no hint of a storyline behind the game in the game itself; you need to look to the Puppy Games website. Apparently you play the part of the final humanoid robot in existence, and you’re looking to destroy the hordes of evil robots that have wiped out the human race. They’re led by the four robots of the apocalypse, who serve as bosses.

Right. Well, luckily, the scant and bizarre story delivers exactly what it promises: your goal in this game is to shoot evil killer robots.

Over. And over. And over.

Your character is a little blue creature with a purple head. You navigate him (her?) around a dark blue field which resembles computer circuitry in neon attacking robots that appear. As is characteristic with killer robots, most of your enemies have scary faces with big teeth and red eyes. You destroy said scary faces by shooting them with your gun, which, when fired, sounds rather like a ping-pong ball hitting the paddle.

And to be honest there’s not much else to the game. There are occasional power-ups that appear on screen which, interestingly enough, can transform into a more desired power-up if you shoot them enough times, such as a bomb that wipes out everything on the screen but the bulk of the play comes in the form of dodging enemy projectiles, keeping your shields high and raining destruction down on everything around you.

It’s just like a classic arcade game. And because of that, Ultratron works. It works really well.

The game is glitch-free and, in its semi-pixelated, neon glory, looks absolutely beautiful. The game doesn’t try and deceive players into thinking they’re playing something more: it’s obvious from the title screen onwards that this is a shoot-em-up, relatively brainless arcade style game where you need quick reactions more than brains to survive. If you don’t act quickly you won’t survive. And if you think the game’s too easy, play through a few levels: the difficulty gets knocked up quite a few pegs very quickly.

Unfortunately not everybody will appreciate Ultratron. It’s built for a specific audience. If you prefer more depth to your games then this one is not for you, as it’s very repetitive and provides no glory beyond a high score. Don’t go looking for a wonderful musical score, either, as the background tunes are scant and bland.

But if you miss the days of classic arcade adventures and yearn for a challenge, give Ultratron a whirl. The game takes a classic formula, makes it work again, and then freshens the whole package up with some wonderful visuals. I would buy it. 4/5
